Black Friday

In San Jose, the tradition of Thanksgiving goes as follows: have a delicious feast with the family and show gratitude for the things one has, and then spend the next 24-hours pushing through crowds, at stores, in order to get something, anything on sale. Oh, the irony.

The shopping industry gets turned upside down during the holiday season. Many stores attract shoppers by vast sales. Others take advantage of the illusion of the Black Friday sale tradition by keeping their prices stagnant, or even raising their prices, and reaping in the profits from eager disillusioned shoppers.

Outside of Best Buy, lines to get the best deal began forming several days in advance. Jason C., one of the campers outside of the BestBuy at San Jose’s Santana Row explained that him and his friends had been, “holding down the fort to get ahead of the crowd. You’ve got to have a game plan.” The advice comes form a seasoned veteran. Jason C. explains that camping outside of BestBuy has become a holdiay tradition.

  1. As I can see by your article, bright side, that San Jose experiences the same mayhem we all see throughout the country. Your point of the “Black Friday illusion” is an unfortunate deception created from the minds of greedy merchants. My game plan is to stay out of the frenzy and enjoy family time.
