When Karl, the San Francisco fog, finally subsides, the summer is usually over. But fear not! This is San Francisco and things work a bit differently here.
When most of California is getting ready for the cool days of fall, the City by the Bay is getting ready for summer.
Just when all the hippies and yippies finally make their way home from travel abroad, the burn and other summer excursions, the fog finally disappears and sunny days in San Francisco are there for everyone’s pleasure. The best place to be during these days in the legendary Dolores Park.
The epicenter of the Mission District is a little park on a hill (of course) on the corners of 18th Street and Valencia. Here, people gather with cans of beer and conviction, ready to make the most of the sunny days and forego their woes in light of Karl’s passing.
With an epic San Francisco skyline in the foreground and the Sutro Tower in the back, people lounge on the green grass, people watching and enjoying the bright days of the San Francisco summer.
There musicians bring out their instruments and serenade the locals with unique interpretations of familiar tunes. Marijuana friendly folk walk around selling joints. Dogs run around in circles and make new friends, just like their owners. People wear funny costumes, like my new t-rex friend. Everyone is in it for a good time.
This is the best of San Francisco.
