the weekend

Saturday nights in San Jose can be spent at the Ritz, watching cool bands like The Adicts, or participating in a bar crawl like the Beer Walk in Japan Town hosted by local businesses such as the legendary Jack’s Bar and Lounge as well as some places you wouldn’t expect like Japantown Dental. Instead, this weekend I decided to do what San Joseians do best: taking it easy.

Taking it easy doesn’t mean staying home all weekend, it means striking the balance between doing a little bit and doing a lot. My Friday night was spent at The Fish Market, catching up with a few friends, watching the Warriors and Steph Curry make half-court three pointers, and then some wine at home with the ever loving roomies.

Saturday was dedicated to lounging around in my pjs and cleaning up a few things around the house. Followed by a well deserved dinner at Sushi Okawa. The notorious Sushi Sam is in charge of all of the sushi production and, of course, is a master of his craft. I knew that the experience would be a great success about a minute after I sat down when the server gave us warm towels to clean our hands. Miso soup was on point which, in my opinion, is the deciding factor of whether a sushi joint is doing it right. The fruity, dairy based salad dressing was like a breath of heaven.

After the amazing dinner we went home and had some fantastic wine with the roomies while munching on Sweet Retreats amazing ice cream and watching Borat. Very nice!

Sunday was made for football and bbq. The day began with a friendly game of tennis with the boyfriend, the roomie and my awesome dog Jackie who is the best ball girl of all time. Afterwards we BBQd some chicken, steak, sweet potatoes and zucchini. We watched the Patriots lose and the Cardinals get their ass kicked. We had some beers, the boys jammed in the garage, and the roomie, and local artist, Ryan tattooed my friend Shar. Overall the weekend was indeed a great success south bay style.

And now, all theres’s left to do is to patiently await next weekend.
