After twelve years of providing indie nights, local and not-so-local music to the people of San Jose, the Blank Club has closed its doors. The news came as a shock to many since the club’s popularity hadn’t wained over the years, yet with lease agreements and other things to fuss about, the Blank Club has made a move towards the history books.
On Friday January 30th, Monkey, their dedicated fans, and a few randoms gathered to celebrate the club’s second-to-last night, because the last night would have been too much to bare. Sweet HayaH and Audible Smoke Season opened for the band, ruffling up the crowd before Monkey took the stage and got the audience moving, dancing and jumping to celebrate the end of the Blank Club era.
Even though the Club is closing, San Jose’s rock scene will live on with several other venues regularly booking local bands and the opening of a new club in San Jose’s SoFA District by non-other than the Blank’s former owner Corey Obrien.
Obrien will be moving the party to 400 S. First, the same spot that was the home of the F/X in the hay day and, more recently, several other failed clubs.
So even as the doors to the Blank Club close, new ones are sure to open a few blocks down.
