Garry Singh’s exhibit, The Lucidity Of Travel, occupies the right wall of San Jose’s Good Karma Cafe, where the food is not only delicious but also delightfully vegan. The photography exhibit was a pleasant look at cherished fragments of solitude from around the world. They’re snapshots of ones state of mind, not simply events that have happened but blueprints of the moment.
I was lucky enough to run into the artist himself at today’s exhibit. Gary walked me through the photographs, explaining that most of them were taken by his phone camera (and no, Gary doesn’t have the latest iPhone or android.) Despite the technical nonchalance of the camera, the photos were beautiful and thought provoking.
It was wonderful to see an exhibit that explores local and global moments, which are used to create a cohesive exhibit about the nature of travel, proving that traveling can be done around ones own neighborhood.
